1968 – 2018
Dear friends, partners and customers of Buchegger Winery,
about two weeks ago we had to inform you about Walter’s tragic passing. Walter decisively shaped the company with his energy, his know-how and his presence. We are still in shock. However, we have decided: the winery will be continued.
With the same intuition with which Walter provided his outstanding wines year after year, he also put together a team that is highly motivated and competent to continue his work.
Your contact persons
These well-functioning structures have been very helpful lately as Walter’s illness became more and more apparent. Due to this situation, our cellar master Michael Nastl has increasingly contributed to the cellar work and has shown tremendous commitment and skills. As Walter’s longtime companion, I have gradually taken over tasks at Buchegger Winery to relieve him, in addition to the management of my own winery Vorspannhof Mayr.
And what about the wines?
They are doing fine indeed! Only recently, Walter’s Grüner Veltliner Kremstal DAC Leopold 2017 finished first at the Falstaff Kremstal DAC Cup. Most of the wines of the 2017 vintage are bottled and on sale already, the Reserve wines and Erste Lage wines may mature until September. The vineyards are looking excellent at the moment and we are optimistic that this year’s vintage will be exceptional.
Walter’s project of the heart
As some of you may already know, in the past few years Walter invested a lot of time and energy into a new product: the Buchegger Grosse Reserve 2014 – a sparkling wine from Chardonnay grapes with 36-month yeast storage – is extremely promising and will be available as a limited edition for the first time by the end of October 2018.
